Initially trained as a Radiographer at The Royal United Hospital in Bath, Catherine graduated in 1991 and went on to become a diagnostic Radiographer DCR (R). She then gained the higher certification in the Fundamentals of Mammography and has worked as a Senior Radiographer and Mammographer at the Lancashire breast Unit based in Chorley since 2007.

Catherine is a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist (HPD) and Hypnotherapy Supervisor. She runs flourishing Hypnotherapy practices in both Southport, Merseyside and Chorley Lancashire. Working as a therapist “helping people, help themselves” she finds both therapeutic and rewarding.

More recently, in September 2020 she completed the Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma(AHD). This course has been assessed at a level 5 by NCFE. This is the highest qualification available for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists in the UK.

Catherine’s business knowledge developed from her 15 years experience working in the Motor Industry. She was trained initially in Sales and Marketing, fast tracked through all dealership departments to eventually become a Dealer Principal, working for Peugeot, Southport and latterly for the Volvo Dealership in Plymouth. She regards her time spent in this extremely challenging retail environment as vital, as it allowed her to achieve her full potential. She feels it gave her the skills and experience necessary to move forward in her life.

Her interest in hypnotherapy grew out of her observations of the way individuals faced with similar problems coped with trauma and stress. She was amazed when one of her colleagues attended hypnotherapy sessions for anxiety, the difference it made was a powerful indicator for Catherine. This was the catalyst that prompted her decision to train as a Hypnotherapist.

Still working as a Mammographer she decided to attend the Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training School. She chose CPHT, as the school teaches Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This therapy is based on researched neuroscientific programmes that said, the more enjoyable the therapy is, the more likely it is to be successful.

The CPHT course syllabus and philosophy is solidly based on the experience and expertise of its founder David Newton. It facilitates results, encourages new strengths, and qualifies the case for transformation, not only for its clients.

CPHT teaches what works and practices what works, a philosophy that allows happy hypnotherapists help clients to become more confident and successful and overcome or cope with problems.

She is now part of the CPHT Chester, Liverpool, Preston and York Teams, she will be training students who like her, want to and will, make a difference. Her continued personal diligence and outward looking persona ensure her clients and students alike benefit from any and all new research and evidenced based changes.

She now lives in sunny Southport, Merseyside, is a real foodie and her golf is still an on-going project despite all her best efforts.

Jennifer Higgins CPHT Senior LecturerJennifer Higgins
Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist

Jennifer started her career in the NHS working as a Midwife for seven years, then adding Contraceptive and Sexual Health Nursing role to her responsibilities for the remainder of her 12 year public sector career. Providing care in and around West Lancashire as a Midwife and a Family Planning Nurse for clients and families of all ages and backgrounds.

After starting a family of her own and successfully using Hypnobirthing techniques for the births of her own babies, Jennifer retrained, after leaving the NHS, with KG Hypnobirthing and ran her own independent Hypnobirthing business for a number of years adding Breast feeding peer support to her belt and setting up a local support group in the community setting.

The Hypnobirthing ignited a second passion in Jen, and although Jen had experienced first-hand the effects of hypnosis techniques prior to pregnancy she felt that there was more to know and wanted to add hypnotherapy to her qualification so that she could help her clients more. The clients who came to Jen often asked if she could help with phobias and pre existing anxiety and low mood prior to pregnancy. It seemed a natural progression after running a successful Hypnobirthing business for number of years, to develop her skills as a Clinical Hypnotherapist. Jen was one of the first to graduate at CPHT Liverpool, going on to establish her busy Hypnotherapy clinic providing treatments for clients in West Lancashire, Merseyside and nationally both in person and online. Utilising her skills developed in the public sector to help clients with a diverse set of needs from all ages.

Jen chose CPHT as she liked the balance between practical and theoretical learning the course offered over the duration of the training. Jen particularly enjoys the Solution Focused approach which works so well and the changes which come about in the individual clients are wonderful to witness over the relatively short amount of time that the clients come for therapy.

Having studied with CPHT for her Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma so much, Jen started her Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma with CPHT. She is now enjoying her role as Senior tutor at CPHT Chester and is thrilled to be teaching the fascinating subject of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to her new students.
When not running a busy clinic, Jen loves to walk the family dog, Holly, along the beautiful local footpaths which surround her home while sporting one of her own home knit bobble hats, listening to podcasts and audio books, enjoy spot of photography, baking, and warming up in front of a log fire with a hot chocolate with her young family.
